Future for Local Government draft report – we’re seeking your feedback

10 February 2023

Following months of feedback from you, we're happy to share our draft submission on the Future for Local Government (FFLG) draft report.

Our draft submission makes recommendations that bring to life principles and concepts from the report, as well as responding to the Panel’s key ideas.

We want the Panel’s final report to move beyond the status quo. Councils want much bolder, more tangible recommendations on local government’s future role, the services councils could deliver, how they should be funded, and a clear roadmap on how to get there.

We need you all to get behind this work. The FFLG Review presents local government a once-in-a-generation opportunity to reshape itself for the future.

Many factors are shifting the nature of local government’s work and role, posing fundamental questions about councils’ purpose and responsibilities. It’s clear we need a more flexible and citizen-centred system of local democracy that will work for tomorrow’s world.

We’re seeking your feedback on this draft by 20 February, so that we can submit it to the Panel ahead of their 28 February deadline.
